Projects and Needs |
The first project was to bring electricity to the hospital, and then to repair and renovate existing buildings, and then later to erect new buildings needed in order that the facility might better serve as a hospital. A Teaching-Learning Center has been constructed by Salem Presbytery, and a surgery/recovery suite was erected by Medical Missions, Inc., as well as some other new buildings. The water and electrical distribution systems have been improved, and a chapel has been built. In addition, in order to enhance medical service, a guest house for visiting medical teams from the United States was constructed, and volunteer medical teams are now rotated in regularly. A new program has been established called "Adopt A Child", to provide pre-school experience for children, at a cost of only $60 per year per child. Brochures on this program are available on request. A Sewing Center has been established to create an economic boost to the community. Agricultural and animal husbandry programs have been initiated. There are a number of major projects yet to be funded and accomplished:
The entire Mwandi project over the past years has been funded in great part by donations of individuals and congregations, and this need will continue into the foreseeable future. Accordingly, we are grateful for all such donations, and hope that present donors will not only continue, but invite their friends into the joy of supporting the Mwandi Christian Hospital. Donations should be sent to the Thyatira Presbyterian Church at Mill Bridge, 220 White Road, Salisbury, N.C., 28147, clearly marked as donations for Mwandi. They will of course be acknowledged, if so requested. If anyone is considering making a donation, but would like more information about the hospital and its on-going projects, they may contact any one of the Trustees, or either of the following:
